Within the framework of Waldorf-methods Education, the Kindergarten is structured to provide a gradual transition from the life of the home to the life of the elementary classroom. It is based upon the simple, yet profound concepts of imitation, repetition, and creative play.  [ …read more ]

With the Waldorf method of instruction, the class teacher involves the children in writing, reading, recitation, dramatic acting, painting, drawing, and movement. The teacher follows a rhythm, day to day, which begins with a  review of the previous day’s material, further development of the subject matter and then introduction of new material. Though looping, the class teacher works with each child through a multi-year relationship, where the teacher is able to draw out the child’s strengths and focus more consistently and intensively in the weaker areas.

In the grades, we teach the core subjects in a rotation of main lesson blocks in which the children discover and delight in one topic for a 2 hour period each morning over 4-6 weeks.  This rhythm allows the students from grades 1-8 time and opportunity to penetrate each subject thoroughly and with a purpose, whether it be history, biology, mathematics, geography or literature.

Middle school students are ready to be enthusiastic critical thinkers, observing the world around them and drawing their own conclusions.

We help these young adolescents expand on the knowledge from intermediate school and relate that knowledge to their own lives and their community.  All this is done while maintaining their creativity and encouraging continued mind, body and ethical development.

In these grades the practical and theoretical come together as our responsible young adults work with each other, their teachers and their school.

Our middle school students are also encouraged to be leaders, collaborators and critical thinkers and are given many opportunities to help younger students, create and run essential programs for the school and community organizations.

Starting in first grade, students take Specialty Subjects that enrich their education. These classes include music, language, handwork, games, gardening, and woodwork.
